Thales Communications, Inc. is a global leader in the development of multiband, software-defined radio (SDR) equipment. Leveraging an unequalled SDR technology radio base in the U.S. DoD and more than 10 years of Project 25 (P25) public safety experience, Thales Communications is serving first responders with the Liberty Multiband Land Mobile Radio (LMR). The Liberty radio is an SDR solution that enables communications across all modes and all U.S. public safety bands--136-174, 380-520, 700, and 800 MHz--in a single portable radio. The radio provides all modes standardized for public safety use, including analog FM and P25, conventional and trunked, as well as full encryption capabilities, including DES, AES, and OTAR. In early 2008, the U.S. DHS awarded Thales a grant to further develop and pilot test the radio under its new SAFECOM Multiband Radio Project. In early 2009, the Liberty radio became the first FCC-approved multiband radio covering the entire public safety spectrum.
